Schmalz is making a beer for the New York Public Library that is based on the handwritten recipe from G. Washington for Small Beer when he was in his 20s. They are only making 25 gallons but getting way more good publicity. press release

"Take a large Sifer (sifter) full of Bran Hops to your Taste. Boil these 3 hours then strain out 30 Gall(ons) into a cooler put in 3 Gall(ons) Molasses while the Beer is Scalding hot ... let this stand till it is little more than Blood warm then put in a quarter of Yea(s)t ..."

@ Anonymous from June, 2011 2:11AM; It was probably left off the "regular" news because neither of the two NATIONAL MEDAL winners are in the Foam Blowers Club. If they didn't do it, then it's not worth reporting.

Actually, Pearson entered his beer in the Nashville judging center and Heinlein entered his beer in the Madison, WI judging center. I put up the original post (May 7) when the Indy results were available but was corrected in comments when other centers reported (Thanks Jim and anon).

We try, but it's only a public service.

Maybe true, but if the one of the FBI had won, the results would have been posted faster than Bob O. would have climaxed being with a quality Thai hooker...

No worries Bob, I was pointing out the ironic coincidence and nothing more. Thank you for your public service, it gives us all a little more insight into what is going on in the Indiana Brewing Scene and beyond.
